Hafner Stars in 8-3 Loss to Tampa Bay
New York designated hitter Travis Hafner had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Hafner hit 3 home runs, even as Tampa Bay beat the Yankees, 8-3. The winning pitcher was Scott Barrett. His record now stands at 2-2. The left-hander went 9 innings, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits for the Devil Rays. The win puts Tampa Bay at 12-14.

Trot Nixon had a big 3-run home run for the Devil Rays in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Tampa Bay trailing 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a curveball from former first round draft pick Chris Carpenter and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Devil Rays on top, 3-1.

"Enjoyed this one," Nixon told the Tampa Bay Gazette. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
