Blue Jays Earn 8-5 Home Win
|
The Toronto Blue Jays downed the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, 8-5. The hitting star was right fielder Ken Griffey Jr.. Griffey Jr. was 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Blue Jays. Scott Bankhead, the winner, is now 3-1. He struck out 1 and walked 1 over 6 innings, while allowing 5 runs on 7 hits. Nick Evangelista earned save number 6 this season.
Carlos Quentin had a big 3-run home run for the Blue Jays in the bottom of the third inning. With Toronto trailing 4-2 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Ray Clark and punished it. The result was his 6th home run of the season, which put the Blue Jays on top, 5-4.
"There's losing your stroke and finding your stroke," said Griffey Jr.. "I guess I've found mine."
The win gives Toronto a record of 13-10.
