Mariners Earn Win with Late Rally
|
The Tampa Bay Rays and Seattle Mariners provided some drama for the home crowd.
The Seattle Mariners found a way to sneak past the Tampa Bay Rays, 4-3, in 12 innings. Seattle pitcher Rogelio Quintana, for one, had a standout performance. Seattle reliever Kurt Sundstrom picked up the win, raising his record to 2-2. Mike Thompson was tagged with the loss.
It could have been a different outcome for Seattle, had it not been for Jared Tahiri, the 29-year old shortstop . Tahiri contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the 12th inning to put Seattle up, 4-3.
"Rogelio was really on it," said Seattle manager Sam Fuld. "He's got a feel for playing with the hitter front-to-back, side-to-side."
Seattle goes to 90-46. The win puts them 24½ games up in their division.
