Devil Rays Snatch Late Win
|
The Tampa Bay Devil Rays beat the Cleveland Guardians, 10-7, at Tropicana Field. Tampa Bay designated hitter Erubiel Durazo had the hot bat. He was 3-4 with 2 doubles and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Tampa Bay pitcher Paul Shuey got the win, upping his record to 2-1. Heath Bost got the loss. Huston Street earned the save for Tampa Bay, his 1st of the year.
The Guardians had been locked in a 6-6 tie with the Devil Rays going into the bottom of the eighth inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick Carlos Villalobos came to the plate. Villalobos hit a run-scoring double on a full count fastball from Cleveland hurler Heath Bost. It was Villalobos's 5th double of the year.
"There's a lot of passion in our clubhouse," said Durazo. "When we put it together we're a great ball club."
With the loss, Cleveland is 10-8.
