Oakland Coasts to 13-2 Win
|
Safeco Field was the site for AL action featuring the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics.
The Oakland Athletics cut down the Seattle Mariners by the score of 13-2, with the largest share of the credit going to left fielder Jose Guillen. Guillen went 2 for 3 with a double and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 for the Athletics. The winning pitcher was 29-year old right-handed pitcher Francisco Montero. He tossed 110 pitches over 6.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits.
Tied up with the Mariners in the top of the fourth inning, the Athletics got a boost from second baseman Mel Rosales. With the bases loaded, Rosales saw a full count curveball from Jim Abbott and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Oakland on top, 1-0.
"It kind of got out of hand on us there," said losing manager Matthew T.
The win gives the Athletics a record of 6-9.
