Cardinals Post 3-1 Win Over Washington
|
Tony Sipp, the 25th overall pick in the 2002 draft, never let the Nationals get in a groove. The left-hander used his bread and butter, his slider, to pitch the Cardinals to a win, 3-1. Sipp, the winner, moves to 4-1. He threw 6.2 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 5 walks. Jobannis Henriquez earned the save for St. Louis, his 31st of the year.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Carlos Lee? The St. Louis first baseman had a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put the Cardinals on top, 1-0. For the game, Lee had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
Lee called the win "a collective effort."
St. Louis, at 69-67, sits in 4th place in the NL Central Division.
