Quentin Slugs Blue Jays to 5-4 Win
|
The Toronto Blue Jays downed the Oakland Athletics, 5-4. The hitting star was left fielder Carlos Quentin. Quentin hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2 for the Blue Jays. Toronto reliever George Huguet got the win, raising his record to 4-1. Alex Amezquita was tagged with the loss. Picking up the save was Hunter Jones, his 28th.
Chris Wakeland, who finished 4th in the AL in OPS with .935 in 2004, chipped in a 3-run home run for Toronto in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the designated hitter had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 3 runs batted in.
"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said Toronto manager Matt S.
The victory gives Toronto a record of 73-55.
