The Houston Astros had to overcome a big game from Cincinnati designated hitter Shigeo Matsuo to leave Great American Ball Park with a victory. And they did, winning, 12-9, in 11 innings. Matsuo hit 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Raul Cazal notched the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. His record now sits at 3-3. After today's action, Houston sits at 65-52; Cincinnati slips to 68-52.

The game was at a stalemate until first baseman John Lindsey came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Cincinnati pitcher Daniel Bard, he hit a 0-1 sinker for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Houston on top, 11-9.

"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," Lindsey said in postgame remarks. "Soon enough, the finish line will be in sight."
