Uribe Stars as Rangers Top Athletics, 8-1
|
Texas shortstop Juan Uribe contributed significantly to his team's 8-1 win over the Oakland Athletics. Uribe, who led the AL in triples with 7 last year, went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Rangers. Shigeki Noguchi, the winner, improved to 9-9. He held Oakland to 1 run on 3 hits over 7 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. At 65-49, the Rangers claim second place in the AL West Division.
With Texas leading 1-0 in the top of the first, Uribe hit a run-scoring single off Oakland hurler Jonathan Sanchez. It was the 106th hit of the season for Uribe and put his team ahead, 2-0.
"We were able to put some runs on the board," said Uribe after the game.
