Mets Down Nationals, 4-1
The New York Mets racked up a win at Shea Stadium, bumping off the Washington Nationals, 4-1. Todd Redmond, who started for New York, pitched effectively for his team. Getting the save was Brad Bergesen, his 1st. New York sits at 6-5.

Alonso Panatta had a big 2-run home run for the Mets in the bottom of the first inning. With New York leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a fastball from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Dennis Medina and punished it. The result was his 4th home run of the season, which put the Mets on top, 3-0.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Panatta. "And not try to do too much."
