World Series Game 1 Victory for Martinez and Florida
The Florida Marlins powered past the visiting Boston Red Sox, 3-1, in the opener of the World Series at Pro Player Stadium. Florida starting pitcher Willie Martinez threw 5.2 innings allowing 1 run, to lead the charge. The Marlins now lead the series 1-0.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Marlins had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fourth, when left fielder Raul Lopez hit a 2-run single. The single came off Dan Serafini and made the score 2-0, Marlins. Lopez went 3-4 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs.

"Things broke our way today and that's great," Marlins manager Craig Harris said. "It's important, though, to stay focused and not pat yourself on the back too much. We aren't done yet."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Pro Player Stadium in Florida.
