Mariners Get Clutch Win Versus Detroit
|
The Seattle Mariners had to overcome a good performance from Detroit pitcher Brian Pilkington to claim a 3-2 win at Safeco Field. Pilkington went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 run. Seattle, at 44-44, sits in last place in the AL West Division.
The game was decided with no one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Seattle trailing 2-1, Jose Garcia hit a fastball from Andrew Miller to center for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Mariners had a walk-off win.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Detroit manager Vandelay Tigers. "We just didn't cash in."
