Mississippi Sweeps Smokies
|
The Mississippi Braves rolled over the Tennessee Smokies 6-3 at Trustmark Park to easily win the 2007 Round 1 crown.
Mississippi won in a walk and swept the series from the Smokies 4-0. It was their 7th championship title.
Winning manager Jim Lyttle praised his own club as well as the opposition, calling the Smokies "a fine team."
"It wasn't as easy as it looked. We had to play good baseball to beat them," he said. "We always seemed to come up with the key hit at the right time and to make the plays on defense when we had to. That's how you win the Round 1."
The Braves took first place in the Southern League South and rounded out the year with a 80-60 record.
