Red Barons Held Hitless by Roberts
|
Buffalo Bisons starter Grant Roberts said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.
"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Roberts recalled.
The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.
The Buffalo right-hander no-hit the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons, 1-0, at Dunn Tire Park, finishing with 4 walks and 8 strikeouts, facing only 30 batters.
"I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Roberts admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too."
This year, Roberts has compiled a 10-5 record with a 3.31 ERA in 20 starts.
