Mariners Lose, 6-5, in 12
|
The Oakland Athletics beat the Seattle Mariners, 6-5, at Safeco Field. The win was due in part to first baseman Sean Casey, who was 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The save was credited to Josh Merino, his 1st. Today's win puts Oakland at 77-84, while Seattle falls to 75-86.
Oakland used the timely hitting of Mark Ellis to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 12th inning to put the Athletics on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
In postgame remarks, Ellis said: "I'm proud of our guys, of their fight."
