Hafner Helps New York Cruise to 11-3 Win
|
The New York Yankees defeated the Baltimore Orioles, 11-3, at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. New York was led by 30-year old first baseman Travis Hafner, who went 4-5 with a double and 3 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. New York starter Carlos Valdez was credited with the win after throwing 113 pitches over 8.1 innings. His record now stands at 8-3. With the victory, the Yankees upped their record to 42-35.
Hafner had a big hit for New York with one out in the top of the seventh. With New York leading 4-3, Hafner hit a 2-run double. It was his 20th double of the season and put the Yankees up, 6-3.
Hafner told the New York Chronicle: "I don't know which I enjoy more -- being a ballplayer or the perks that come with being a ballplayer."
