Twins Clipped, 3-1
|
The New York Mets had to overcome a good performance from Minnesota pitcher Andy Pettitte to claim a 3-1 win at Shea Stadium. Pettitte went 8 innings and allowed 3 runs. New York reliever David Robertson was the winner. His record is now 2-0. Andy Pettitte took the loss. With the win, New York pushed its record to 41-31.
Had Vladimir Guerrero not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Guerrero hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Mets.
"It was just a matter of executing," said New York manager Donovan Thompson.
