Best SL1 Reliever Named
Thursday, June 7th , 1917
At the age of 17, Jules Jones says he still has a lot to learn about life in Negro Secondary School Baseball Association.
But he certainly seems to be a quick study, as the Memphis HS Danes reliever was better than all others this year and has captured the 1917 Conference 1 Reliever of the Year Award.
"I hope to win this a few more times before all is said and done in my career," the St. Louis, Missouri native said.
For the season, Jones had 8 saves in 26 relief appearances, which totaled 37.1. He fanned 17 betters, while walking 8 and put up a record of 0-1 to go with his 0.72 ERA.
He received 14 first place votes out of a possible 16. Jimmy Greene of the Brooklyn HS River Rats finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Mike Blair of the Phoenix HS Patriots finished third with 1 first place vote.
