Patriots Advance to World Series

Phoenix HS right fielder Johnny Cartmill couldn't hide his reaction when asked about being named MVP of the League Championship Series.

"It's a nice honor," he said, failing to suppress a wide smile. The trophy was presented to Cartmill moments after his club eliminated the Brooklyn HS River Rats to advance to the World Series.

Phoenix HS won the final game by a score of 4-3 at Patriots Field and took the series 4-1.

"We won the series and that's the main thing," Cartmill said. "They were a tough team and we didn't want to take anything for granted."

For the series, Cartmill hit .318 with a .375 on-base percentage. He had 0 home runs, drove in 4 RBI and scored 4 runs.

"He was tough to stop and that's a big reason they're there and we're here," said a dejected Brooklyn HS manager Robert Cook.

The Phoenix HS Patriots don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Milwaukee HS Bucs - Indianapolis HS Blues series. Milwaukee HS leads the series 3 games to 2. The World Series schedule will be announced after the League Championship Series finishes.
