Lewis Grabs SL1 Reliever of the Year Award
Friday, June 11th , 1915
At the age of 15, Bill Lewis says he still has a lot to learn about life in Negro Secondary School Baseball Association.
But he certainly seems to be a quick study, as the Phoenix HS Patriots reliever was better than all others this year and has captured the 1915 Conference 1 Reliever of the Year Award.
"I hope to win this a few more times before all is said and done in my career," the Hanover Township, New Jersey native said.
For the season, Lewis had 5 saves in 15 relief appearances, which totaled 44. He fanned 24 betters, while walking 15 and put up a record of 3-2 to go with his 1.02 ERA.
He received 10 first place votes out of a possible 16. Lafayette Watts of the Columbus HS Alligators finished second in voting with 5 first place votes, while Clyde Burroughs of the Houston HS Fighting Lions finished third.
