Watson Hit String Snapped at 21
Wednesday, June 13th , 1917
Lansing center fielder Robert Watson went 0-for-4 in Lansing's 7-1 triumph over the Eau Claire Oysters, snapping his 21-game hitting streak.

Watson spoke to BNN after the game and said he "knew the hitting streak would end sooner or later."

"I just would have preferred later," he said with a laugh. "It was fun though."

When Watson made an out in his last chance at the plate, his teammates congratulated him in the dugout. In the clubhouse after the game, he seemed unbothered by the streak ending.

"There's nothing scientific about it, that's for sure," Oysters manager Forrest Fisher said of Watson's streak. "He had a nice little run. Let him start another one when we finish the series here."

Looking at his season stats, Watson has compiled a .311 batting average and a .365 on-base percentage, while hitting no home runs and driving in 38 runs.
