Brooklyn Southpaw Tosses 5-0 Shutout
Sunday, August 12th , 1917
Walter Fain bent a little, but he didn't break against the Baltimore Clippers. The Brooklyn Whales pitcher hurled a 5-hit, 5-0 shutout in a fine performance, surrendering 1 walk and tallying 1 strikeout.
"Walter is good at getting out of jams," Whales manager Marques Williams told reporters after the game. "He's almost more effective when he gets guys on base or gets behind in the count, because he uses your aggressiveness against you."
Over the season Fain has thrown 317 innings and dished out 86 strikeouts with a 18-16 mark and a 2.16 ERA.
