Averill Hurls 5-0 Masterpiece
Wednesday, June 16th , 1915
Before the game, Harley Averill said he liked his chances. His instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing at Field of the Whales, the Brewers pitcher blanked the Brooklyn Whales, 5-0.
"I just had a feeling it was going to be my day," Averill said in the clubhouse afterward. "My control was awesome. I could throw my curveball even when I was behind in the count."
The Philadelphia starter held Brooklyn scoreless, giving up 8 hits while registering 6 strikeouts and issuing 1 walk.
"We didn't have very many good at-bats," Whales manager Marques Williams said in a postgame interview. "When that happens, you usually lose."
To date this year, Averill has compiled a 8-7 mark with a 2.54 ERA in 16 starts.
