Kings Pull Out Late Win, 4-3
|
Richmond wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Garrett Dixon, falling to the New York Kings, 4-3. Dixon threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. George Leeder, who finished 5th in the EL in innings pitched with 336.1 in 1911, was the winning pitcher. Over 9 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 13 hits, with 1 walk and 1 strikeout. The second-place Kings sport a record of 30-23.
In the bottom of the ninth, with two out and the game tied, 3-3, 27-year old second baseman Edward Oakden won it for New York. With the bases loaded, Oakden hit a 3-1 cutter from Russell Glover for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 4-3 win.
"Big team win," Oakden said later.
