Rowe Leads Tigers to 8-6 Win Over Bakers
|
Due in large part to center fielder Earnest Rowe, the Philadelphia Tigers sunk the New York Bakers, 8-6. Rowe went 4 for 5 with 4 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Ernest King picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 3-8. Robert Batkin, who won the Greenhorn Cup in 1906, was tagged with the loss. The win has Philadelphia at 18-33.
Harmon Lucey came through with a big-time hit for Philadelphia. The pinch hitter smacked a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 8-5. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Rowe told a Philadelphia Bulletin reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
