Brooklyn Loses, 6-3, in 11
|
Pierce Adney, who finished 4th in the WL in strikeouts with 110 in 1902, was locked in. The left-hander led the Boston Banshees to a 6-3 win against the Brooklyn Whales at Field of the Whales. Verner Pomfret, now 1-1, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. Raymond Burridge was credited with the save for Boston, his 1st of the season.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Daniel West came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Brooklyn pitcher William Adams, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Boston on top, 4-3.
"We take it day by day here," said West, "and today was a good one for us."
The Banshees raised their record to 19-23.
