Clippers Fall Short, 1-0, at Philadelphia
|
Baltimore got a valiant performance from pitcher Harry Mitchell, but it wasn't enough to beat the Philadelphia Brewers. Philadelphia won the game, 1-0. Mitchell threw 8.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Mearl Sexton picked up the win, lifting his record to 4-4 on the season. He struck out 4 and walked 5 in 7.2 innings, while yielding no runs. Philadelphia is now 15-24, Baltimore 15-25.
The Brewers got a big at-bat from right fielder Isidore Howse. For the game, Howse went 1-3 with a home run. In the bottom of the first, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 6th home run of the season gave Philadelphia a 1-0 lead.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Howse told the Philadelphia Chronicle. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
