Kings Score Late to Nip Whales, 2-1
|
Starting pitcher George Leeder gave the New York Kings a rock-solid performance, helping his team defeat the Brooklyn Whales, 2-1, at Kings Ballpark. Leeder, now 7-5, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. The third-place Kings lifted their record to 22-19.
The Kings got a big at-bat from first baseman Edgar Maslen. For the game, Maslen went 1-4 with a home run. In the bottom of the first, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 4th home run of the season gave New York a 1-0 lead.
"We'll enjoy this win for now, but it's just one," Maslen told local reporters. "We've got to keep it going."
