Banshees Lose to Whales, 5-1
|
Brooklyn pitcher Jewell Durtnell did his part in helping his team defeat the Boston Banshees, 5-1. The opposition could never get too much going against the right-hander. Durtnell yielded 1 run over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 0. His record improves to 3-1. The Banshees fall to 5-7 and continue their uninspiring start to the 1918 season.
Durtnell had a key at-bat in the bottom of the second to put Brooklyn in front, 2-0. With the bases loaded, he hit a sacrifice fly off Boston pitcher Weldon Vipont.
"It's so much easier when you throw good pitches," said Durtnell.
