Brewers Beat Rifles, 5-2, at Boeselager Stadium
|
The Philadelphia Brewers picked up a win at Boeselager Stadium, knocking off the Richmond Rifles, 5-2. Starting pitcher Troy Duerden played a key role in the triumph. Winfield Clark, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 3rd save. Philadelphia is now 5-4.
Isidore Howse dealt the Rifles a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with the bases loaded and Philadelphia leading 3-2, Howse, who finished 5th in the EL in batting average with .305 last year, hit a 1-1 cutter for a 2-run single.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Philadelphia manager Tom Peterson.
