Cartwright Stadium was the site of the home opener for the Providence Angels. The contest featured a prime matchup between Merrill Marsham of the visiting Boston Banshees and Robert Richardson of the Angels. The final score was 4-0, the Banshees getting the win. Merrill Marsham turned in the best performance.

The Angels had trouble solving Marsham, who surrendered no runs on 5 hits over 9.1 innings.

In postgame comments, Marsham said, "I think we gave the fans their money's worth."
