Rosebuds Get Past Seattle for 2-1 Win
|
Joseph Matthews could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Seattle Sawyers lost, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Portland Rosebuds at Sawyers Grounds. Ambrose Watcham, 11-5, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. The win hiked the Portland record to 80-60.
Portland used a timely hit from James Bamforth to get the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rosebuds ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"There are no moral victories," said losing manager Cloyd Tressler.
