Oilers Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Giants, 4-1
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Detroit Giants and Pittsburgh Oilers get after it.
The Pittsburgh Oilers picked up a win at Oilers Ballpark, downing the Detroit Giants, 4-1. On the mound for Pittsburgh was left-hander Ralph Hall, who played a pivotal role in the win. The winning pitcher was Hall, now 16-10. He tossed 9 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 2.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder John Bugden came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Detroit pitcher Constant Payne, he hit a 0-1 changeup for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Pittsburgh on top, 2-1.
"Ralph gave us a heck of an effort," said Pittsburgh manager Charles Bennett.
With the win, Pittsburgh raised its record to 58-58.
