Reds Drop Athletics, 2-1
|
Reds Ballpark was the site of a tense game between the Cleveland Athletics and Saint Louis Reds.
The Saint Louis Reds picked up a win at Reds Ballpark, downing the Cleveland Athletics, 2-1. On the mound for Saint Louis was left-hander Kurt Kesey, who played a pivotal role in the win. Kesey picked up the win for Saint Louis, going 7 innings. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 19-10.
Frank Butler had a big solo home run for the Reds in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Saint Louis leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a slider from Ocie Stibbs, who is tied for 2nd in the WL in innings pitched with 327.0, and punished it. The result was his 4th home run of the season, which put the Reds on top, 2-0.
"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Kesey said.
With the win, the Reds have a record of 58-58.
