Reds Need Extra Frames to Get Past Athletics
|
Behind the hitting of Frank Butler, the Saint Louis Reds stopped the Cleveland Athletics, 5-4, in 13 innings. Butler went 3 for 5 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for the Reds. Saint Louis reliever Sigmund Holmes picked up the win, upping his record to 5-7. Beryl Bell was saddled with the loss. The 4th-place Athletics have lost 4 consecutive games.
The Reds got a clutch hit from right fielder Golden Reeves. In the bottom of the 13th, he delivered a run-scoring single to win the game for the Reds.
"I'm glad I could get it done when the game was in the balance," Reeves said in his postgame press conference.
