Reds Nip Beavers, 5-4
|
The Saint Louis Reds overcame a good performance by Saint Louis shortstop Sigurd White to knock off Saint Louis, 5-4, at Reds Ballpark. White went 3-4 with a double and 2 singles. Saint Louis reliever Sigmund Holmes picked up the win, upping his record to 4-6. Irvin Dover absorbed the loss. The Reds saw their record improve to 35-38.
Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 24-year old right-handed pitcher Sigmund Holmes had a chance to be the hero. Saint Louis pitcher Irvin Dover wanted to foil that plan. But with two outs, Holmes drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Reds had themselves a thrilling win.
"In baseball, you have your ups and downs," said Saint Louis manager Stanley Gisentaner. "You just try to stay level-headed the whole time."
