Athletics Beaten By Oilers, 8-4
|
The Pittsburgh Oilers defeated the Cleveland Athletics, 8-4, at Oilers Ballpark. Leading the charge for Pittsburgh was third baseman Leroy Earnshaw. He was 2-4 with a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Ralph Hall got the win, improving to 11-6. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 8 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 2. The win gives Pittsburgh a season record of 36-35.
John Bugden, who is tied for 6th in the WL in bases on balls with 32, helped out the Pittsburgh cause in the bottom of the fifth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the center fielder went 1 for 3 with a walk.
In comments to the Pittsburgh Herald, Earnshaw admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
