Compton Fires No-Hitter
|
The Twin City Empire were just hoping for a solid outing from Elwin Compton. Instead, they got something special.
The 28-year-old hurler tossed a no-hitter against the Chicago Packers, helping the Empire take the 3-0 win.
"I felt good throughout the game," he said after his spectacular outing for the Empire. "As I was going into the ninth inning, I wasn't nervous. I knew I had a chance to do something special."
Compton's repertoire has a changeup, cutter, fastball, and curveball, and he used it all to full advantage, keeping the Chicago hitters off balance all game long. The Twin City hurler fanned 2 and walked 2 in his history-making performance.
"His changeup looked about the size of a watermelon seed and it hissed at you as it passed," Chicago manager Kyle Levin joked after the game.
So far this season, Compton has a record of 6-0 with 32 strikeouts and 29 walks in 78.1 innings and a 1.72 ERA.
