Empire Best Oilers in Pitching Duel
|
The Twin City Empire downed the Pittsburgh Oilers, 2-0, at Oilers Ballpark. Twin City pitcher Charles Gray had a scintillating performance. James Harland, who led the WL in saves with 27 in 1916, earned the save for Twin City. The first-place Empire have a one-game lead in their division.
Dewit Amesbury, who led the WL in wins above replacement with 8.2 in 1916, had a direct impact on the outcome. Amesbury contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Twin City up, 2-0.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Twin City manager Country Hardy.
