Empire Beat Oilers, 6-2
|
The Twin City Empire defeated the Pittsburgh Oilers, 6-2, in part because of third baseman Roy Warfield. Warfield went 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Empire. Beryl Torr got the win, improving to 6-4. He pitched 8.1 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 3. The Empire have an impressive 34-16 record.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Clayton Robson? The Twin City first baseman had a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Empire on top, 2-0. For the game, Robson had 1 double and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"We've got a great group of guys," Robson said, "and we're having fun right now."
