Beavers Get Hard-Earned Win
|
Starting pitcher Cruz Pope was a major factor in the 3-2 Saint Louis Beavers triumph over the Pittsburgh Oilers. Saint Louis is 18-24 and Pittsburgh, with the loss, 21-21.
Had Lloyd Doble not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Doble hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Beavers.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Doble.
