Cincinnati Beats Twin City, 3-2
|
The Cincinnati Doves eked out a 3-2 win versus the Twin City Empire at The Peoples Park of Minnesota. Nobody did more than pitcher Isidore Lee. He was terrific. Lee, who finished 3rd in the WL in innings pitched with 367.0 in 1909, went the distance for Cincinnati. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. The win elevated the Doves to 18-12.
Samuel Foster, who finished 3rd in the WL in home runs with 4 in 1909, had a direct impact on the outcome. Foster contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning to put Cincinnati up, 3-1.
Twin City manager Country Hardy said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
