Orin Tipper pitched a gem to lead Saint Louis to victory over the Twin City Empire, 4-1. The winner was Tipper. He threw 8.2 innings of 7-hit ball. The loser was Loy Watts. The setback makes Twin City 12-15.

The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Paul Mackaness came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Twin City pitcher Loy Watts, he hit a 1-1 changeup for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Saint Louis on top, 3-1.

"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Mackaness told the Saint Louis Times.
