Saint Louis Beavers starter Cruz Pope pitched well against the Cincinnati Doves at Doves Field, leading his team to a win, 6-4. The Doves drop to 4-8, as their fitful start to the 1918 campaign continues.

The game was at a stalemate until first baseman John Aylwin came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Cincinnati pitcher John Barnes, he hit a 1-1 curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Saint Louis on top, 5-4.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Aylwin. "And not try to do too much."
