Reds Earn Late Win
|
The Saint Louis Reds topped the Pittsburgh Oilers, 2-1, in 11 innings at Reds Ballpark. The game was highlighted by the performance of Saint Louis pitcher Elvis Wheeler. After losing, Pittsburgh is 1-3.
Batting in the bottom of the 11th, 31-year old left-handed pitcher Jeffrey Broome had a real shot to win the game. Pittsburgh pitcher Henry Hooper was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, Broome hit a run-scoring single. The Reds had a walk-off triumph.
"It's what good teams do, find a way to win," said Wheeler.
