Brewers Lose to Bakers, 3-1
|
New York starter Ernest Batchelor put a stranglehold on the Philadelphia offense. The right-hander had complete command of his sinker in leading the Bakers to a 3-1 win. Batchelor, now 5-4, was the winner. In 8.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. New York is now 56-43, Philadelphia 46-53.
Albert Lee drove in one run for New York. The 23-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Mearl Sexton. It was his 25th RBI of the season.
"Ernest gave us everything he had," said New York manager Mason Sempill.
