Providence starter Audie Darwin pitched well against the Richmond Rifles at Cartwright Stadium. The left-hander led his team to a win, 4-3, in 11 innings. The 5th-place Angels sport a record of 34-42.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. With the game tied in the bottom of the 11th, an error by the Rifles allowed the Angels to score the winning run.

"This wasn't a good win," said Sturdy. "It was a great win."
