Cleveland Upended by California, 9-3
|
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the California Angels and Cleveland Guardians.
California designated hitter Carney Lansford helped his team beat the Cleveland Guardians, 9-3. Lansford, who finished 5th in the AL in runs with 114 in 1979, went 3 for 4 for the Angels. The winner was Jerry Reuss, who threw 95 pitches over 5.2 innings. The left-hander was charged with 1 run on 6 hits.
In the top of the second, California center fielder Gary Pettis had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Pettis stroked a 2-run single to center. It made the score 4-0, California. For the game, he was 3-5 with 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"It was a solid team effort," said Lansford after the game.
The winning streak has now reached 4 games for the Angels.
