7-2 Win Sends Detroit to 17-7
|
The Detroit Tigers topped the Boston Red Sox, 7-2, the lion's share of the credit going to first baseman Jason Thompson. On the day, Thompson went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Tigers. Picking up the win was Dan Petry. He went 8 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits. The right--hander struck out 2 and walked 3. The Tigers, now 17-7, have played well so far.
The game turned with no one out in the bottom of the fourth. That's when Thompson hit a grand slam home run off Bert Blyleven. It propelled the Tigers into the lead, 4-0.
Said losing manager Ryan Rogan: "Obviously, we wished for a better outcome."
