Thrice Is Nice: Cuadros Unloads 3 Homers Friday, December 12th , 2031 His swing was a thing of beauty. Three times Nelson Cuadros swung the bat and three times he delivered a home run. It was an awesome sight to behold at Vulcans Park, but to no avail, for as good as he was, the Williams Wanderin' Goats were better. The Memphis Maniax couldn't capitalize on the big game from Cuadros and dropped the contest, 9-6. The mood in the Maniax clubhouse afterward was subdued, with several players remarking that they had allowed the Wanderin' Goats to spoil the day for Cuadros. "Some of the boys are beating themselves up about it," Memphis manager Dave Hammertime said. "They know we win as a team and lose as a team, but it's hard to really put that idea into practice on a day when one of you was playing on such an obviously higher level." In addition to the homers, Cuadros collected 3 RBIs and scored 3 runs. "I got three pitches down the pipe and popped them," the Memphis second baseman told reporters. "Today I was in a groove. Tomorrow I could just pop the same pitches up and go 0-for-3." Nelson Cuadros struck out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Juan Berrios in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Juan Berrios in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Frank Rivas in the 9th. So far this year, Cuadros has 14 home runs and a .327 batting average. |
